Home Instead to Offer Free Alzheimer’s Care Training

The Home Instead office, based in Springfield, MA, is launching a specialized training program in sensitivity to Alzheimer’s Disease with the goal being making the community more Alzheimer’s friendly.

The training will be offered as a free service to local businesses to help employees be more equipped in dealing with families caring for a loved one who suffers from this debilitating disease.

The programs ultimate goal is to counter the isolation that results from this disease.  In a recent survey of Alzheimer’s caregivers, 74% reported that their loved ones had become increasingly isolated from the community.  85% said they feel a reduced quality of life because of this isolation.

According to Alzheimer’s Disease International, the number of people with dementia worldwide is expected to grow to a remarkable 75.6 million by 2030 and 135.5 million in 2050.

According to Home Instead officials, local businesses can work directly with the home office to coordinate in-person training sessions.  After the training, the businesses will receive a window sticker indicating that they are an Alzheimer’s Friendly Business.  A designation that will be valid for 2 years.
